Welcome to Brave Beginnings

Hello, and welcome to Brave Beginnings.

At Brave Beginnings, we’re passionate about empowering families to nurture emotional well-being. Inspired by years of experience in child health and mental health support, our mission is to provide proactive resources that foster resilience and emotional regulation from an early age.

Brave Beginnings was founded with a deep commitment to child health and emotional well-being. With a background in paediatric nursing since 2009 and over a decade of experience in child and adolescent mental health, I’ve seen first-hand the challenges families face. As a parent too, I understand the importance of creating a supportive environment where children feel safe to express their emotions and have the tools to navigate life's ups and downs. Brave Beginnings strives to give families practical support that is both evidence-based and rooted in real life, so parents and children can learn together.

Our vision is clear: to move from reactive mental health care to proactive education and prevention. By teaching children how to recognise, express, and manage their “big feelings”, we can help to build a strong foundation for lifelong resilience.

The Urgent Need for Preventive Mental Health

The statistics surrounding children’s mental health in the UK are deeply concerning. According to NHS data, one in six children aged 5–16 is likely to experience a mental health problem. Additionally, YoungMinds reports that 75% of young people with mental health issues aren’t receiving the support they need.

These figures underscore the pressing need for resources that provide education and early support. At Brave Beginnings, we are committed to addressing this gap.

So how do we begin to change this picture? One of the first steps is through emotional education.

Why Emotional Education Matters

Teaching children to notice and express their emotions is a powerful step toward building resilience. When children understand how and why their body responds to emotions, they see the value of different healthy coping mechanisms.

Open conversations at home and in schools are crucial in preventing isolation, as they enable children to feel heard and supported. That’s why our resources - including ‘Little Moments Big Feelings’ Journal are designed to bring these conversations to life.

Supporting Emotional Growth Together

The YoungMinds' Impact Report 2022  highlights the importance of accessible mental health support for families, reinforcing the need for proactive, practical resources.

At BraveBeginnings, our resources focus on emotional literacy, promoting healthy regulation of big feelings, and supporting parents and their children to manage worries. Designed to help children develop skills that will carry them confidently into adulthood.

Together, we can build a community that prioritises emotional well-being and empowers children to navigate life with confidence.
